According to ESRAH Statutes § 4, the Board of Directors defines quality criteria for the admission of new members.

Membership in the Earth and Society Research Hub is open to all full-time professors at University of Hamburg, habilitated or postdoctoral research associates, §17 professors, and doctoral candidates at University of Hamburg who

can demonstrate their connection to the ESRAH research profile, typically by the relevance of one or several of the following:

• affiliation to working groups,
• involvement in research projects including doctoral projects,
• acquired third-party funds or
• publications.

Scientists of the University of Hamburg who do not fulfill the requirements of paragraph 4 (1) and other employees (i.e. technical and administrative staff) of the University of Hamburg can become affiliated members if they work in a working group or work context related to ESRAH.

Scientists of other national and international universities or scientific and research institutions, can apply for affiliated membership.

Applications for affiliated membership must include

1. a letter to the board of directors detailing the motivation for joining ESRAH and how the research interconnects with the research foci of the hub,
2. a supporting statement from a professorial ESRAH member,
3. a current CV.
