Where scientists from different faculties think and work together
Welcome to the Earth and Society Research Hub (ESRAH)! We are an interdisciplinary research center at the University of Hamburg that focuses on the dynamics between society, climate, Earth, and environment. Our goal is to investigate how we humans influence the Earth system – locally, regionally and globally – and vice versa.
Climate change is a central, but by no means the only challenge that we want to understand and for which we want to find options for action. There are also questions such as: How can natural resources be used sustainably? How can necessary changes be shaped in such a way that they strengthen social solidarity? How can societies become more resilient?
ESRAH is carried by the Faculties of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences (MIN) and Economics and Social Sciences (WISO), but also has members from the Faculties of Business Administration, Humanities and Law. In this way, we combine different perspectives across disciplinary boundaries.
We are committed to the transfer of knowledge to society and advocate research-based and interdisciplinary training for young academics. We support the development, implementation and interdisciplinary exchange between research projects.
