Archive: Partnerstädtepreis
In the past years, ESRAH's predecessor CEN and the Gesellschaft Harmonie von 1789 e.V. have already worked together through the Partnerstädtepreis. The prize was awarded for outstanding BA-, MA- and PhD-theses written at the University of Hamburg dealing with the topics of water, sea and climate. It was important that the the thesis was related to one of Hamburg's twin cities. Each of these nine cities is located on a river, a sea or a lake landscape and thus has a special relationship to water —just like Hamburg.
Awardee 2017: Elena Hengstmann, MA
Awardee 2016: Dr. Svenja Bierstedt, PhD
Awardee 2015: Valerie Menke, MA
Awardee 2014: Dr. Moritz Mathis, PhD, and Elina Wegner, Diplom
In 2014, the prize was shared:
Oceanographer Dr. Moritz Mathis received the award for his doctoral thesis, in which he examined how sea levels, temperature and salinity in the North Sea are likely to change in the coming years. The work is relevant not only for Hamburg, but also for its twin cities Dresden, Prague and St. Petersburg, as the North Sea influences the climate in Central Europe.
Elina Wegner was honoured for her thesis in the field of geography. She studied the functioning of a citizen-organised drinking water supply in Nicaragua. This has strong links to Hamburg's twin city of León in Nicaragua. The prize was presented by Dr Dorothee Stapelfeldt, former Deputy Mayor and Senator for Science and Research.
